Arrigo Sacchi will receive recognition from UEFA this Thursday

The Italian technician Sacchi Arrigobest known for his spells with Milan and the Italian national team, will receive the UEFA President’s Award this Thursday during the draw ceremony for the group stage of Champions League which will take place at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul.

This was confirmed by UEFA on Tuesday, through a statement in which its president, the Slovenian Alexander Ceferin, defined this award as “an award that recognizes professional excellence and more, honors the legacy left by exceptional individuals within football”.

“Very few people have achieved redefine the philosophy of the game in the way that Arrigo Sacchi was capable, to the point of observing this sport divided into two periods: before and after Sacchi”, explained Ceferin to justify the choice of the Italian coach.

“The countless tactical innovations introduced today are the foundations for any tactical script, and have been reflected in the training method of several new generations of coaches” added the UEFA president, where “Sacchi reinvented teamwork, and perfected synchronization and the competitive mentality of their teams.

Sacchi, of 76 years, made history as Milanista coach, where he coached 4 seasons to win, among other titles, two Champions in 1989 Y 1990, and also led the Italian finalist team in the 1994 World Cup, where they lost on penalties against Brazil. A World Cup remembered in Spain for the elbow of Tassotti a Luis Enrique in the match between the national team and ‘azzurra’ in the quarterfinals, where Italy beat Javier Clemente’s team (1-2).
