As the debate over the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia heats up, there are still plenty of loopholes to circumvent sanctions. This is also proven by the wife of Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov (54), who caused a stir with holiday videos from Greece. Tatjana Nawka can be seen at a party in a seafood restaurant, among other things, breaking plates to the sound of Sirtaki. Actually, the 47-year-old should not have entered the EU country.
The Ukrainian-born Russian responded to the video, which the former figure skater and model posted to her Instagram page last week but later deleted: “In Greece, part of the nightly entertainment consists of dishes on the floor to smash. I like it, what do you think?” A look at the site’s website even reveals that they prepare their own plates for tourists to break so visitors can celebrate the Greek tradition. While many followers liked the video, it also received heavy criticism.
Via Turkey to Greece
In Greece itself, people are wondering how the 47-year-old, who was denied entry to the country, was able to get to Greece at all. According to media reports, the Greek island of Simi may have been reached via Turkey, where there is no such ban. Nawka was reportedly in the company of a wealthy Russian businessman at the Manos Greek Fish Taverna. With this man, Peskow’s wife would travel back and forth on a yacht between Turkey and the nearby Greek islands. Countless Greek journalists turned to the Russian authorities on social media, asking for an explanation – but in vain.
In Russia, Nawka has also caused quite a stir with her vacation. Her lack of patriotism was blamed, especially on social media. “How can you travel to a country that supports the enemy with money and weapons?” it read, among other things. Some people wondered why the holiday was not spent in Crimea. Many had only one word left: “Shame!”
