An unknown man was seen stealing various items of clothing in a department store in Vienna-Donaustadt on Tuesday afternoon. The store detective immediately alerted the emergency services and tried to stop the thief in time. When the police arrived, the situation escalated.
According to police, the suspect put the clothes in his backpack and tried to leave the store without paying. The backpack was primed so that it wouldn’t hit any anti-theft devices.
Defended with punches
When the alarmed police arrived to arrest the man, he suddenly tried to defend himself by punching the officers. But without success. In addition to the converted backpack, police were able to confiscate an apparently stolen French passport and small amounts of cannabis during the arrest.
Identity still unknown
The police officers were unharmed in the attack. During the interrogation, the suspect confessed. The man’s identity has not yet been established.
