In neighboring countries – with or without a Green Passport: this is how our holiday is successful

Date:

Many Austrians also struggle through a jungle of corona rules when traveling. Shortly before the holidays we are thinning out the bushes in the neighboring countries.

3G or PCR test? Do I have to fill out an immigration form? What measures apply in the country? What should I pay attention to when I drive home? The virus is giving us a headache when planning our trips this year. This is how you avoid nasty surprises in neighboring countries:

Italy
With a valid Green Passport (on paper or digital) and pre-registration on the Internet, nothing stands in the way of the “Dolce Vita” anymore. When eating pizza indoors, 3G applies, in the swimming pool, in the wellness or in the cinema even 2G. The FFP2 mask must be worn on the train and bus as well as indoors. By the way, holidaymakers spend five days without proof in the hotel room and then undergo a Covid test. Note the registration form: one per adult, in exceptional cases there is also a printed Italian form.

Croatia
Vaccinated, recovered or tested also applies to a trip to Rovinj or Porec. A digital Covid certificate is preferred – but also works on paper (details: www.bmeia.gv.at). The travel registration “Enter Croatia” is only recommended so that it goes faster at the border. The document must be pasted on the windshield of the car. You can also register at the border without printing it out. Mouth and nose protection also belong in the suitcase: for example for public transport, but also for shops and taxis.

Slovenia
Staying overnight in Slovenia on the way to Croatia is no problem at all: no proof, no form, no access restrictions in shops or restaurants. It is definitely recommended to have a valid passport with you. When passing, the opening times of the border crossings must be observed.

Hungary
A spontaneous visit to the thermal baths or a day of shopping is quite easy in our eastern neighbor: there are no proofs, no tests or quarantine necessary upon entry, there are no restrictions in shops, restaurants or at events.

Germany
Our neighbors who speak the same language demand 3G. Exception: first-degree relatives, life partners or with shared custody. Most of the measures have already been taken, each federal state handles them differently.

Return to Austria
Anyone over the age of twelve who cannot present a valid 3-G certificate on their way home must first complete the so-called ‘pre-travel clearance’ and go into quarantine for ten days. Incidentally, the Ninja Pass is valid as 3G or even 2G+ proof.
