The invitation of a mosque in Mannheim to participate in the series “Girls’ Night in the Mosque” causes outrage in Germany. The “preparation for marriage” courses are aimed at “girls and women aged 13 and over”.
The flyer that “Bild” has available states: “Girls’ evening in the mosque. Seminar series for girls and women from 13 years old in preparation for marriage”.
The flyer also contains a quote from ‘Tabarani’: ‘He who marries has fulfilled half of his faith.’
The courses are given in the mosque of the Islamic Omar Al Faruq Center in the Neckarstadt-West district. Many people with a migrant background live there.
“Strengthen self-confidence”
The criticism was not long in coming. The district chairman of the CDU youth organization Junge Union, Lennart Christ (26), sees “a fatal message”. The organizers of the courses reassure: the aim of the courses is to “strengthen the self-confidence of the participants”. Weddings of women under the age of 18 do not take place.
