Ten meters high – glass plate broke: two workers fell

Date:

Tragic accident at work on Thursday in Kalsdorf (District Graz-Environs). While installing glass plates, two workers (aged 50 and 58) fell ten meters and were seriously injured.

Two glass factory workers, both from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district, were engaged in assembly work around 11 a.m. on a construction site of a three-storey apartment building in Kalsdorf. Glass elements are mounted on a roof of the stairwell at a height of about ten metres. The elements were lifted onto the metal structure with a crane, set up by the two workers (50 and 58 years old) and finally attached.

Because a suction cup was not completely loose, when the lifting device was removed, one of the glass plates was briefly lifted again by the crane and then fell back on the metal construction, causing it to break immediately. The two workers, who had already stepped on the glass plate, fell down with the shards.

Other workers at the construction site notified rescue services and the two men were flown to the LKH Graz by the rescue helicopter Christophorus 12 with life-threatening injuries.
