Femicides in Austria are making headlines again. The “Krone” has investigated the background of the latest cases in Lower Austria.
The town of Neulengbach in the Vienna Woods (Lower Austria) has almost 8,500 inhabitants. No one on this rainy Thursday morning wants to have known the 20-year-old, who was murdered with a box cutter behind door 1 in the house on Wiener Straße the day before.
No one has the face or name of her on-off partner, a 22-year-old Moldovan who took the knife to herself after the crime. As reported, the couple was spotted by the actual homeowner around 4:30 PM on Wednesday. He came home from work, wanted to chat with his roommate and his girlfriend, but was standing in front of a locked living room door. It was dead quiet behind it.
He raised the alarm – the rest is known. Emergency services discovered the blood-covered bodies. Homicide-suicide, the evidence was clear, they say.
“They didn’t just smoke marijuana”
The crime is discussed in the hair salon directly below the crime scene, but no one has heard or even seen anything. A neighbor across the street talks about wild drug parties: “They didn’t just smoke marijuana.” He doesn’t know who they are. But the dead have names: Carmen W. and Euginiu N. – she is from Neulengbach and he had Austrian nationality. They loved each other, hated each other and died.
Another murder in Lower Austria
As reported, the emergency services were also alerted in a residential area on the Schlosssee in Oberwaltersdorf in the south of Lower Austria. The shocked homeowner said he found his 57-year-old wife covered in blood in the marriage bed. She was murdered with at least four knife wounds to the head and neck – the murder weapon is still being sought.
From witness to suspect
The ex-businessman who was initially considered a witness (he had run a kitchen studio with the victim and sold it years ago) quickly became the target of the violent group, also because there were no signs of a break-in. Due to the facts incriminating him, the prosecutor’s office has now ordered the arrest. The suspect is in the prison of Wiener Neustadt and is silent for the time being.
The motive is still a guessing game. Did she want a divorce, was there jealousy involved? As is said in the circle of acquaintances, the 64-year-old has increasingly isolated himself from previous friends.
Shocking parallels to the death drama in Tyrol
As reported, a similar drama took place in Tyrol in June. An 18-year-old stabbed his girlfriend (17) with a knife until she stopped moving. Jealousy was the reason! He then jumped to his death from a 112-foot-long bridge.
