The Hungarian Court of Auditors sounds the alarm: “Too feminine education” in schools threatens the population. According to a report from the authority, this promotes “feminine characteristics” such as emotional and social maturity. The “fatal consequence” is the “over-representation of women in universities”, leading to fewer children. The authority also warns that boys’ development could be adversely affected.
The report was published in July but only received public attention after an article appeared in the Nepszava newspaper on Thursday. It describes guys as naturally willing to take risks and interested in entrepreneurship. If they can’t develop these traits because of too much female influence, they could develop “mental problems,” the auditors warn.
The report also states that women’s influence on parenting could ultimately lead to “demographic problems”. Because educated women may have a hard time finding an equally educated partner. According to the statement, this reduces the chance of getting married and thus the chance of having children.
“Glasses from the last century”
Hungarian opposition MP Endre Toth called the report “complete scientific nonsense”. It’s time to take off the “glasses of the last century,” he criticized on Facebook.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been pushing for a “conservative revolution” since he returned to government in 2010. In 2019, after a visit to Hungary, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights criticized “backward steps in women’s rights and gender equality in Hungary”.
