A 43-year-old from Altmünster in Upper Austria became a helper with his stem cell donation for a woman in the US. On 9 September, another typing campaign will take place in Wels for Elias (7 months) who suffers from leukemia.
Five years ago, Kurt R. from Altmünster decided to be there for others in an emergency and entered the database for stem cell donors during a typing campaign in Salzburg. Now, the 43-year-old has actually become a lifesaver.
“I didn’t expect it to be my turn. It was the woman’s last chance, otherwise she would have died,” says Kurt R. happy after the successful stem cell donation.
Donation took three and a half hours
The donation took about 3.5 hours, before that a full health examination was carried out in the Altmünsterer in Vienna General Hospital. “The donation was collected immediately and sent to America almost 24 hours later. “It was a very emotional moment. It changed my outlook on life. The greatest luxury is health,” the donor is convinced.
Benefit concert and typing campaign for Elias
Elias (7 months) is still looking for a suitable donation and, as reported, has leukemia. As part of the Shopping Night in Wels, there will be a benefit concert by the band “The Big Band Deluxe” on September 9 between 6 pm and 8 pm. His father is a drummer in the group. At the association “Give for Life” you can be typed directly on site.
