The traffic jams never stop: Saturday is also a busy travel day, and there were waiting times of more than an hour on many highways in the morning. The journeys to the south are particularly affected, but traffic to the north is also expected to increase during the day.
“Many travelers are heading to the Adriatic for a late vacation, but return traffic from vacation is already starting to move north,” the ÖAMTC reported on Saturday morning. In the south, the Munich – Salzburg – Villach – Karawanken tunnel axis was particularly affected, which often suffers from heavy traffic.
On the A8 in Bavaria to the A10 in Salzburg, 15 kilometers of traffic jam occurred on Saturday morning. Traffic moved at a walking pace. The ÖAMTC also reported a traffic jam of more than 15 kilometers on the A10 between Hüttau and Flachau.
Long wait in Carinthia
In Carinthia there were waiting times in the Oswaldibergtunnel near Villach to the south because the road had to be closed due to a broken car. At the Karawankentunnel on the A11 towards Slovenia we had to wait up to an hour.
Traffic also towards Austria
Also on the way to the north there were traffic jams and since the morning the return traffic has increased. Waiting times of more than an hour were to be expected for the Karawanken tunnel towards Austria. In Styria, on the A9 between Peggau and Übelbach, there was a delay due to construction work.
The first traffic jams were also on the Tauernautobahn (A10), this time heading north at Werfen. In addition, traffic is already blocked at the Salzburg interchange in the direction of Walserberg and in Tyrol on the Fernpass route (B179).
