Parking in front of the garden gate in Vienna: In Oberlaa it is prohibited, but in Floridsdorf it is.
The “Krone” report on the Parkpickerlposse in the Settlers Association Bruckhaufen in Floridsdorf caused a furore. A statement from the then district manager suggested that residents there should be protected from parking fines.
The next grotesque
But now the next grotesque is opening up here. While in the south of the city, in Oberlaa, cars parked on private property are regularly penalized, in Floridsdorf it is legal to park in the meadows. This is made possible by extra parking spaces specially intended for this purpose, which have been laid out by the district at the request of the residents’ association.
Alderman Heidi Folge (Greens) is furious: “There are plenty of free, legal parking spaces here. Apparently it is unreasonable to even walk 20 meters! Do you hang eight expensive signs for that?” District leader Georg Papai (SPÖ) confirmed the procedure when asked and stated that he had only carried out the wishes of the settlers’ association. “No new parking spaces have been created here, but a transparent situation everywhere where cars can be parked and where not.”
Meanwhile, in the neighboring Donaustadt district, 55,000 residents are threatened with traffic fines because of a lack of legal parking spaces there too.
