Due to the construction of a highway in India, a farmer wants to move his house about 120 to 150 meters. A new stretch of highway to cross his state of Punjab will go where his two-storey house originally stood, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi said.
The government offered him compensation for the demolition. However, this was lower than the equivalent of more than 100,000 euros that he paid for the construction a few years ago. So he decided to move his house, which had been under construction for two years – and hired a construction company.
According to video footage from local media, workers dug trenches under the house’s foundation and moved it with steel beams and hydraulic jacks. The approximately 15 to 20 construction workers have now moved the house about 70 meters, according to the homeowner. However, the floor of the house is now missing. It must be rebuilt in the new place
