A motorboat with seven people collided with a dinghy on Lake Maggiore on Sunday evening, in which five passengers were seated. A total of seven people were injured, none seriously. Five people, including two children, fell into the water in the collision. All involved were rescued by the Coast Guard.
The accident happened off the coast of the town of Ranco in the province of Varese.

A 14-year-old girl was flown by helicopter to Monza hospital after injuring her hand. Three children were taken to a hospital in Varese. Other occupants of the boat suffered cuts from contact with the propeller of the dinghy.
A Coast Guard patrol boat recovered all five occupants of the inflatable boat. The drivers of both boats tested negative for alcohol and drugs. An investigation has been launched into the causes of the accident.
