A sea of shards on Sunday evening in the Mariahilf district of Vienna: A drunk 20-year-old is said to have completely lost his temper at a newsstand, attacked a 25-year-old for no reason and attacked him glass bottle. The aggressive Austrian also targeted passers-by who came to the victim’s aid and threw bottles. When the police wanted to take him to the police station, the man fled and jumped off the Pilgram Bridge.
The suspect repeatedly gave officials “confusing and inaccurate information” about his name, after which the Margareten city police officers wanted to take the drunkard to the police inspection around 9 p.m. But the young suspect fired at his heels and ran away, officers gave chase.
At the Pilgram Bridge, the 20-year-old suddenly jumped over the parapet into the River Wien, sustaining injuries to his leg. However, the 20-year-old continued to drag himself into a tunnel and tried to hide in a drainpipe.
Rescue through rescue gutter
Due to his injury, the young man was no longer able to climb out of the canal under his own power. He had to be pulled to street level by the Vienna fire brigade in a rescue tub with turntable ladder and pulley block and accompanied by a fire brigade height rescuer. He then received first aid and was taken to hospital under police escort.
There, too, the 20-year-old suspect was aggressive: he kicked his doctor several times. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and attempted assault.
