Brutal attack on a taxi driver late Sunday morning in the Donaustadt district of Vienna: A passenger – clearly intoxicated – suddenly started to rebel in the car after the start of the journey. In addition to racist statements, the suspect attacked and beat the professional driver while driving. The 39-year-old alleged perpetrator would also have threatened the driver with a knife.
The terrifying scenes took place around 11:15 am. The 48-year-old taxi driver was on his way to the designated destination in the 22nd arrondissement when the drunken suspect suddenly became abusive and began swearing at the driver. The enraged man then expressed his anger at the dividing wall of the taxi and damaged it.
As if that wasn’t enough, the alleged perpetrator hit the driver on the back of the head while driving, pulled out a knife and made wild threats. Shortly afterwards, the victim managed to stop the taxi and flee. The passengers did the same, got out of the vehicle and fled.
The 48-year-old taxi driver, who was slightly injured in the attack, warned the police – an immediate search should succeed: the suspect from Austria was arrested in his apartment on Groß-Enzersdorfer-Strasse.
