Missing for years – glacier releases corpse of German

Date:

It has been more than 30 years since a man from Chamonix, France, came to Italy. However, the 27-year-old never reached his goal. When a Swiss glacier melted, mountaineers have now found his remains and equipment he carried with him.

The man from Baden-Württemberg has been missing since 1990. Now he was found dead on a glacier near Zermatt in Switzerland. As police reported, mountaineers discovered the body and parts of his equipment on Stockji Glacier in late July, according to n-tv.de.

A search was unsuccessful at the time
According to the officials, a DNA comparison revealed that it was undoubtedly the missing person from Nürtingen in the Esslingen district. In August 1990, the victim was in the Valais Alps on a multi-day mountain hike from Charmonx in France to Domodossola in Italy. When he failed to arrive at his destination, rescue efforts were launched. But without success. The police believe it was an accident.

The fact that the man’s remains have now been found is linked to the retreat of the glaciers, according to Swiss police. Time and again the corpses of people came to light, some of whom had been missing for decades.
