Tens of thousands of Royal Mail and British Telecom employees have left in a fight for higher wages. 115,000 Royal Mail and 40,000 British Telecom workers took part in the strike on Wednesday, the BBC reported. This delays the delivery of letters and parcels.
General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union, Dave Ward, said, “We cannot live in a country where our bosses are making billions in profits while their employees are forced to use food banks.” The union refused in view of sky-high consumer prices.
More strikes planned
Royal Mail, on the other hand, warns that the strike is costing the company £1million a day, jeopardizing jobs and making it more difficult to fund pay increases. New strikes have been announced.
Collective Labor Agreement conflicts are also raging in many other sectors in the UK, which is why the British media are reporting the ‘summer of strikes’. For example, the employees of a number of train companies and ports stopped working several times a day to fight for better working conditions.
