Four people were killed on Thursday when a tractor vehicle plunged into a river in the western Hungarian town of Kapuvar. Eight other people were injured. The driver would have wanted to take the prisoners to Austria.
Before the border, however, he fell off a bridge in the Repce River, according to the 112 Emergency Press news agency. The driver and three other people were killed in the accident. Eight other refugees were injured.
Twelve people in the car
There were a total of twelve people in the car, causing it to overload. The driver was driving with a Bulgarian license plate and the authorities did not provide any information about the origin of the refugees. The cause of the accident was initially unclear on Thursday.
Hungary is located on the so-called Balkan route, which leads from Turkey to Western Europe via various southern European countries. Accidents with tractors happen again and again. This is partly due to the drivers being under a lot of stress or even chasing the police. In the current case, the police should not have been around.
