58,000 tons of maize on board – Ukraine: Three more grain ships sailed

Date:

Three grain transporters left the Black Sea ports in Ukraine on Friday morning. “The first caravan of Ukrainian grain left the ports of Greater Odessa,” Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said on the agency’s Telegram channel on Friday. In total there is about 58,000 tons of maize on board the three ships.

The cargo ships departed from Odessa and the nearby port of Chornomorsk. In addition to the Turkish freighter Polarnet, there are the Panamanian-flagged Navi Star and the Maltese-flagged Rojen. According to Ukrainian information, the ships are en route to Turkey, Great Britain and Ireland. According to the Turkish Defense Ministry, they will be inspected in Istanbul.

In addition to the three ships that have left Ukrainian ports, an unloaded ship is also being sent to Chornomorsk. The Fulmar S flying the flag of Barbados had already been checked in Istanbul, Turkey’s defense ministry tweeted.

First ship sailed earlier this week
At the beginning of the week, after several months of a Russian naval blockade, the first grain freighter left a Ukrainian Black Sea port. After a successful passage through the Black Sea corridor agreed between the warring parties and an inspection on the Bosphorus (pictured above), the Razoni (pictured above) is now on its way to Lebanon.

With the mediation of Turkey and the United Nations (UNO), Russia had eased its naval blockade to allow grain exports from Ukraine across the Black Sea. This is intended to prevent food shortages, especially in poorer countries.

Only three cargo ships a day for the time being
The resumption of Ukrainian grain exports is considered important for stabilizing food prices on the world market. For now, however, Kiev wants to send only three ships a day for security reasons.
