Deadly leisure accident on Thursday in the Tiroler Unterland: a German was seriously injured on a Flying Fox zipline in Maurach (Schwaz district). According to the police, the woman fell from the 50-meter-long steel cable slide over the reservoir without a suitable safety rope and crashed into a tree. The 30-year-old suffered serious injuries and even briefly lost consciousness.
The German was part of a group of five on Thursday who climbed various routes in the Rofan Mountains. After that, the climbers wanted to descend with the Flying Fox that was stretched there. According to the police, part of the group decided to hold on to the Flying Fox with the equipment they had brought – climbing harnesses and pulleys – and descend over the steel cable. The 30-year-old was the first to leave. “OWithout backing up with a safety rope,” the detectives say.
“Because of the steep incline, she picked up speed. Unable to brake, she collided at high speed with an impact mat attached to the tree. The force of the impact threw her back several meters and she was momentarily unconscious,” the researchers continue.
With emergency helicopter in clinic
The woman suffered serious injuries to her pelvis and thigh. Her companions immediately made an emergency call and provided first aid. After first aid at the accident site, the German flew to the University Hospital of Innsbruck with the emergency doctor helicopter “Heli 4”.
