The vice president was unharmed in the attack of a 35-year-old Brazilian

This morning, an armed man attempted to attack Argentina’s vice president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in Buenos Aires. With a revolver in hand, the young man approached the officer and aimed it at her at close range. The news has caused commotion in Argentina and the images are worrying.

Fernández de Kirchner is currently on the brink of controversy for a new judicial trial. The prosecutor has demanded 12 years in prison for her in the ‘Vialidad’ case, the latest in a series of corruption charges from which she has been released. This is the story of a fatherless girl who has climbed to the top of Argentine politics and the loves and hates of her fellow citizens.

The very serious event, demonstrating the vulnerability of the security system surrounding the figure of the vice president, took place near Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s home as she returned from Congress. Several protesters have been installed there for days to support the vice president in the context of the corruption trial she faces, in which the prosecutor of the case is demanding 12 years in prison for the official – and the disqualification for life to practice public charges- .

As a result of the event, which has endangered the life of the current vice president, the aggressor has been arrested, who was captured by the official’s supporters and later by the police. This is Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel, a 35-year-old man of Brazilian nationality living in Argentina. The same person already has a criminal record dating back to 2021, when he was arrested for carrying non-conventional weapons.

The attack on Cristina Kirchner was carried out as the vice president was about to enter her home – located in the upscale Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires – after she presided over the convention sessions. The weapon used was shit.

As soon as the event happened, representatives of the ruling party and the opposition publicly rejected the attack on Kirchner on social networks. Former President Mauricio Macri said on his official Twitter profile: “My absolute rejection of Cristina Kirchner’s attack, which fortunately did not affect the Vice President. This very serious fact requires immediate and in-depth clarification by the justice system and the security forces.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández also deplored the serious incident. As soon as the episode occurred, the president telephoned the vice president of his administration to give him his support. Going forward, an investigation will be conducted to find out more details about this dramatic event and to analyze the flaws in the security system that are endangering the Vice President’s life.
