The CAF group has been selected to deliver 102 LRVs -light metros- for the city of Boston, in the US, for a total cost of 811 million dollars (811 million euros), as reported by the Basque company.
Specifically, on August 31, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) board of directors agreed to select CAF USA as the successful bidder for the delivery of those 102 LRVs that will circulate on the green line of the city of Boston.
The basic contract includes the production of the 102 vehicles, two driving simulators, fleet parts, special tools and test equipment for the delivered vehicles, as well as their warranty service, for a period of three years.
The contract also provides several options for the purchase of additional vehicles and equipment for the 102 LRVs, which the MBTA could carry out in the coming years.
CAF has specified that the MBTA is the public agency responsible for operating most public transportation services in the Boston area. CAF is currently immersed in the production of the third order for new streetcars for the expansion of the Kansas City streetcar network and in the LRV project for the City of Maryland, which includes the production of 26 LRVs for the line known as the Purple Line, which also includes an interest in the company that will manage the operation and maintenance of the system for 30 years.
