Emergency services were deployed several times in Carinthia on Saturday. In the Maltatal a seriously injured man had to be rescued from the via ferrata at the Fallbach. And in Kals am Großglockner, a hiker fell 20 meters down.
Together with her daughter and her husband, the woman from the district of Spittal went on a climbing tour at the Fallbach in Malta. However, near the core point, the 60-year-old could no longer hold on to the steel cable and fell two meters down as a result. She was held by the via ferrata set.
Salvage proved difficult
The rescue chain was immediately activated. Since a rescue operation with rope by the helicopter was initially not possible due to the overhanging rocks, three mountain rescuers were dropped by the crew of the rescue helicopter RK 1 above the accident site. After the emergency, the woman was eventually rescued from the wall with a rope. The woman was taken to the Regional Hospital Villach with serious injuries.
Fell 20 meters over steep terrain
But the Alpine accident in Malta was not the only one. For a 31-year-old, a hike in Kals am Großglockner ended Saturday with serious injuries in hospital. The woman descended via the upper Mürztalersteig below the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte. In an area not secured by a wire rope, she tripped and fell about 20 meters over steep terrain. Friends set the rescue chain in motion. She was flown to KH Zell am See.
