A 75-year-old German hiker was killed on Monday in a particularly tragic accident in the Alps near Kitzbüheler Horn. The man died trying to catch his wife who lost her balance.
The 75-year-old walked in the morning with his 71-year-old wife to the Kitzbüheler Horn. At an altitude of about 1720 meters, the two took a break at a plank just before 11 a.m. Then the accident happened.
Woman lost balance
For unknown reasons, the woman lost her balance and fell backwards. The man standing behind her tried to catch her, but fell himself. The drama took its course. The woman fell over the edge of the climb and was injured in the slippery terrain below. At the same time, the 75-year-old also fell over the climb and only came to a stop about 110 meters below in a steep gully. Witnesses who saw the accident raised the alarm.

Two ambulance helicopters flew to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, all the help for the 75-year-old came too late. He succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The woman was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to St. Johann hospital. The police helicopter Libelle Tirol has recovered the body of the deceased. An autopsy was ordered. The rescue operation also involved the mountain rescue service of St. Johann.
