At least 35 civilians have been killed in an attack in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Another 37 people were injured, officials said. A supply convoy vehicle had hit a mine.
The military government announced Monday that it had activated an improvised explosive device between the northern cities of Djibo and Bourzanga. 35 people died and 37 were injured. The background of the mine is the regular attacks by Islamist groups on soldiers and civilians. Groups linked to the extremist network of Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) have been active in the region since at least 2015.

The fighting has already displaced more than 1.85 million people from their homes in Burkina Faso. Thousands of people have died in the West African Sahel as a result of fighting between the military and extremist groups.
