A earthquake from 6.8 degrees on the Richter scale recorded on Monday in the southwest Chinain the province sichuanhas a balance of at least 65 dead, 12 missing and 170 injuredas confirmed on Tuesday by authorities, who have indicated that Ganzi Tibet Autonomous Prefecture has been hardest hit by the earthquake.
Local authorities have said that at least 37 people have died in that area of Sichuan, with 28 deaths being added in Shimian County, in the city of Yaan. In Ganzi, missing and wounded people are counted.
Faced with this situation, the Chinese State Council has sent a work team to the area to coordinate rescue operations and assist the victims, and has raised the earthquake emergency level to Level 2, the second highest.
China’s President Xi Jinping has ordered all necessary rescue efforts to prevent the death toll from continuing to rise, and has called for monitoring of the earthquake’s aftershocks, protection against possible future natural disasters caused by the earthquake, and taking care of affected people.
