Knife murders in Canada – police spotted suspects in reservation

Date:

The man believed to have killed 10 people in a series of knife attacks in Canada was seen near the crime scene on Tuesday, police said. Investigators called on people on the James Smith Cree First Nation reservation in the province of Saskatchewan to stay in their homes. A tip came in that the 30-year-old suspect had been spotted there.

It was also revealed on Tuesday that the man had been repeatedly delinquent “without major interruptions” for more than two decades. As an adult, he was convicted a total of 59 times over the years, including a number of assaults, threats of violence and theft, according to a February probation file available to the German news agency dpa. The man has struggled with alcohol and drug problems since childhood and started using cocaine at the age of 14.

Second suspect found dead on Monday
A second suspect, the fugitive’s brother a year older, was found dead on Monday. “He had visible wounds that we don’t currently believe were self-inflicted,” said lead researcher Rhonda Blackmore in Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan.

Detectives suspect the two brothers are responsible for the bloody crimes at two locations in the county, on the James Smith Cree Nation reservation and in the village of Weldon. Ten victims were killed and 18 injured. The deceased was found on the reservation near a house where the police were investigating.

The US government reacted stunned to the knife attack in Canada. This was “pointless and devastating,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in Washington on Tuesday. “Our thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack.” The United States stands behind its ally and neighbor Canada.
