In the Swiss canton of Zurich, a man is said to have shot a woman and then died in a shootout with police. Despite immediate rescue measures, both died on the spot, it reported Thursday morning.
The police had launched an investigation against a 38-year-old German after a previous kidnapping. The suspect was found to have firearms. The police then called in specialists from the intervention unit. When they arrested him shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, the German citizen suddenly pulled out a pistol and fired shots, presumably injuring his companion fatally. The German was also killed in a firefight with the police.
The use of firearms was preceded by kidnapping. The man who has now been shot kidnapped a man in the canton of Zurich a week ago and threatened him with a gun. That same night, the kidnapper let his victim go.
