After criticizing the grain agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan want to discuss the implementation of the agreement next week. Erdogan supports Putin’s proposal to transport not only Ukrainian but also Russian goods through the Black Sea corridor.
He will plead this with the other negotiating partners. Grain and other goods from Russia would help poorer countries in their difficult situation, Erdogan said, according to broadcaster Habertürk.
Putin says Russia and poorer countries have been betrayed. The grain agreement concluded with Ukraine is poorly implemented. Whether it is extended in November depends on whether or not the agreements are met. Putin and Erdogan plan to meet in Uzbekistan next week to discuss the agreement.
As reported, Turkey and the United Nations negotiated the agreement with the two warring parties in July. It makes it possible to unblock Ukrainian grain exports across the Black Sea, which are especially needed by poor countries. The war had blocked ports on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast for months.
