The Basque government has granted prior administrative authorization to the Azazeta wind farm (Álava) though some environmental improvements in this project, which concerns the municipalities of Bernedo, Arraia-Maeztu, Alegría-Dulantzi, Iruraiz-Gauna and San Millán.
The Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV) publishes this Monday the resolution of the Territorial Delegate of the Industrial Administration of Álava granting the aforementioned authorization to the promoter Aixeindar, a company founded in 2019 by the Basque energy entity (40%) and Iberdrola (60%).
The authorization indicates that there have been several since the beginning of the process correcting measures to the project, which includes the installation of eight wind turbines with a gross capacity of 40 MW, and others are now to be added to reduce their impact on the environment.
So it will be necessary moving three wind turbines that are close to but outside the network of protected natural areas and improve the protection of the flora, including burying part of the route of the medium-voltage line and avoiding unnecessary felling of trees.
It will also improve wildlife protection including the installation of acoustic deterrent systems and wind turbine shutdowns, measures against electrocution and collisions in high voltage power lines and the use of “bird protection systems” on all electrical conductors.
