“Field hospital-like conditions have prevailed since last night; we are confronted with an almost uncontrollable number of injured people!”, reports Meinrad Reischl, deputy medical director and senior doctor at the Linz Accident Hospital. “About a hundred injured people have been admitted in the past twelve hours, many of whom had to undergo immediate emergency surgery. Therefore, planned surgeries were canceled or postponed,” the senior doctor said.

Not only the rescue team, but also the other emergency services had a hard time in the morning: the Florianis had to save at least fifteen cars, and there had been a number of serious accidents – for example, five vehicles slid into each other on the A 25 near Wels and a 58-year-old was seriously injured. On Monday evening, a 19-year-old from Waldkirchen am Wesen slipped into a tree and was seriously injured. An alcoholic Marchtrenker (37) drove more than 40 km/h too fast despite icy and slippery roads and had to surrender his driver’s license. A driver came to a stop between trees and a guardrail near Pregarten.
