The Austrian gas storage facilities are already more than 70 percent full, the Federal Chancellery announced on Monday. From Saturday 10 September, the gas storage facilities will be 70.69 percent full. This means that a total of 67.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of natural gas is stored in domestic storage facilities. This corresponds to about two thirds of the annual consumption in Austria.
All Austrian storage facilities therefore have a storage level of more than 60 percent and the OMV warehouse is already 92.7 percent full.
Gas reserve must be stored by November 1
The gas storage facilities must be 80 percent full by November 1. The Republic of Austria itself only has the strategic gas reserve of 20 TWh, which must be stored before 1 November. The largest part of the gas stock belongs to the storage companies.
However, in an emergency, Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) can access the full amount of stored gas based on the Energy Control Act.
The government only presented eleven energy-saving tips on Monday (see video above).
