The body of a young Bangladeshi migrant was discovered by the Italian coast guard on a boat that arrived on the island of Lampedusa on Tuesday evening. All those on board were questioned.
The man’s cause of death is currently under investigation. Since Monday, 19 boats with nearly 800 people on board have arrived in Lampedusa. A boat with 69 Tunisians on board, including 14 minors, immediately reached the port of the island.
The people were housed in the island’s hot spot, which currently numbers 1,100 people, although there is only room for 350 people in the refugee shelter.
Hot campaign problem in Italy
The arrival of migrants is a hot campaign theme in Italy. The country will elect a new parliament on September 25. According to the poll, a coalition of centre-right parties, including the anti-foreigner Lega and Fratelli d’Italia (FdI/Brothers of Italy) could win the election.
