Turk in custody – suspected arson on ex-mother-in-law

The fire in a carport at a family home in Kuchl (Salzburg) was set on Sunday evening, the police reported. A Turk (35) has been arrested: he is now in prison. The police tracked him down after a bicycle accident and a threat against his ex-mother-in-law. He denies himself.

Three months ago, according to police, the 35-year-old threatened his ex-mother-in-law with the words “I hope you’re on fire in the car”. A threat that has now led to clarification of the fire. Because: The fire that broke out on Sunday around 1 a.m. in the carport of a family home in Kuchl, came from the woman’s vehicle. 128 firefighters from the Kuchl Fire Department extinguished the fire until the early hours.

1.8 parts per thousand
A resident of the house raised the alarm because of the noise. While the fire brigade was putting out the fire, the police in Hallein registered a bicycle accident: the 35-year-old Turk was injured in a fall with an alcohol percentage of 1.8 per mille in his blood. He told the officers that he had had a few beers in Kuchl.

Investigators later determined that the fire had started at the carport. A technical defect was ruled out. A fire dog also sniffed accelerants. Criminals now drew their conclusions: the Turk was suspected of arson. The 35-year-old denied this claim during questioning. The suspect said the threat he made months ago to his ex-mother-in-law was just a Turkish expression.

Suspect has motive
In fact, he also stated at the time that his ex-mother-in-law was responsible for the breakdown of his marriage. He would have a motive. The 35-year-old is now in jail. The material damage caused by the fire is enormous. The exact extent of the damage is unknown.
