Arcelor Mittal management met with the unions this afternoon and proposed to launch a temporary state labor regulation file (ERTE), and formed the negotiating committee, the union ELA said in a note.

ELA believes that “a general ERTE is not necessary”. “The year 2021 was extraordinary for Arcelor Mittal. Its production on five continents allowed it to achieve a profit of 13 billion euros and to have a workload. Therefore, the management proposal is disproportionate.”

“The company has shown a very closed position in the negotiations,” he said. It is not the first ERTE to present the company. He has presented several in recent years without any justification and often breaking the law himself (one of which was suspended by the TSJC),” he added.

“Arcelor Mittal wants to use ERTEs as a flexibility tool,” he criticized. Therefore, ELA does not support ERTE that is intended to apply “without justification” to the entire workforce. The Abertzale union has assured that it will defend the workers “with seriousness and determination”.
