Why was the Syrian who crashed into a Viennese woman’s car and killed her allowed to leave the country? Legal expert Dr. Alfred Boran answers these and other questions about the devastating accident at the Vienna Ring last weekend.
Was it an illegal street race that led to the death of the completely uninvolved 48-year-old wife and mother? Or not? This question will only be clarified in the course of the proceedings against a 26-year-old Syrian. As reported, the young man probably ran into Susanna R.’s car at high speed on Sunday evening at the intersection Schottenring/Wipplingerstrae and at a red traffic light. The Viennese died a short time later in hospital.
Investigators now believe it was more of a tragic accident than an organized street race. The 26-year-old is now free and allowed to leave the country.
