But his commitment to climate protection, which has been going on for years, could earn him plus points.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last week, Charles found favor with the British, a recent poll shows. But not everyone is impressed by their first days at the office.
Popularity suffered from scandals
Its popularity has suffered from scandals in recent decades. Most of all, the British hated the divorce from his wife Diana. Charles’ youngest son Harry and his wife Meghan also accused the royal family of racism last year (see above for a video of the royal scandals of recent years).

Charles experienced “ups and downs”
“Obviously, if you’re in your 70s, you don’t have the same appeal as you did in your 30s and 40s,” said Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal authority. Charles has had “ups and downs” in public over the years. At the same time, he has a “remarkable” track record of helping hundreds of thousands of young people from difficult backgrounds through his charity, The Prince’s Trust.
One issue the new king could use to resonate with younger Britons is environmental protection. Charles has been campaigning for this for decades – long before the general public took an interest in it. Yet there are many young people who think the monarchy is outdated. Hashtags like #NotMyKing have been trending online since the Queen’s death.
At the age of 73, Charles III. the oldest monarch to ever ascend the British throne. Not good conditions to win the sympathy of the young British.
