Died in forest – Putin’s best propagandist suffered ‘stroke’

Date:

The list of mysterious deaths of high-ranking Russian figures is growing. As is now known, Vladimir Sungorkin, one of the main propagandists, the editor-in-chief and general manager of Komsomolkaia Pravda, died during a trip to the Far East. According to the Russian news agency TASS, the cause of death was a stroke. He was 68 years old.

Sungorkin was considered one of Russia’s top propagandists – Komsomolkaia Pravda not only has the highest circulation in the country, it is also considered the Kremlin’s mouthpiece and is often referred to as “Putin’s favorite newspaper”.

Putin’s trustee in presidential election
As TASS reports, Sungorkin was on an expedition in a village called Mel’nichnoe, about 500 kilometers north of Vladivostok, during a car rally. Sungorkin has been on the sanctions lists of the EU and other Western countries since April 2022 for his propaganda about the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. The pro-government media manager was also Putin’s trustee in the 2018 presidential election.

Third death this month
Sungorkin’s death enters the list of mysterious deaths among representatives of the Russian elite – three this month alone. It was only at the beginning of the week that it became known that Ivan Peschorin, the head of the Russian Association for the Development of the Far East, had died – according to media reports, he fell from his moving private yacht near Vladivostok.

Ravil Maganov, CEO of oil giant Lukoil, also died at the beginning of September under strange circumstances: he is said to have tripped out of a hospital window while smoking. In March, Lukoil publicly called for an end to the war in Ukraine.
