Two police officers were stabbed in central London on Friday morning. The officers were taken to a hospital after the incident, which happened around 7 a.m. (CEST) near famous Leicester Square, the Metropolitan Police said.
A suspect has been arrested for serious bodily harm. He was overpowered with an electric shock device and then taken to a clinic for treatment.
“The investigation into the incident is still ongoing,” it said. Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed his concern.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Stuart Cundy said there was likely no terrorist background, nor any connection to the mourning ceremonies for Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
