Date:

Mouth sewn shut for the camera! Viennese designer Max Weißenböck has once again caused a stir in the domestic fashion scene with his label MAM Vienna. At the start of his new collection, the designer and activist wants to “make a strong statement” with this unusual campaign and “call attention” to a serious and topical subject. The 27-year-old wanted to “encourage those affected to talk about problems,” as he told krone.at.

Weißenböck’s MAM label uses the title “INSOMNIA”, or insomnia, “as a metaphor for turning night into day, distracting one’s own problems with parties, alcohol, drugs and superficial relationships. So to numb yourself into rather than feeling,” explains the Viennese. According to him, despite increasing openness and acceptance, far too many people still feel reluctant to “talk about their problems and feelings and confide in someone”. solving often ends tragically, he adds.As a sign of breaking the silence, Weißenböck now had his mouth sewn shut in front of the camera.

An action that leaves scars
The designer tells krone.at how he felt during the campaign: “Shortly before the surgery I was a little nervous because I realized I was going to get scars, but it was never an option for me. But don’t do it, because it It is very important for me to send a strong signal and encourage those involved to talk about problems”. The inspiration and creative power for his current collection came during a personal low point in his life. “I am very happy that I have been able to overcome this low point with the help of the collection and that I can be an example in the fashion industry,” says Weißenböck.

His new collection should not only serve as a fashion accessory, but also as a “mouthpiece for expressing one’s own feelings”. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support suicide prevention. The collection will only be available on its website mamvienna.com on September 16 from 7pm CET for pre-orders and then for regular orders at the end of October.

Wiener values sustainable production
Weißenböck, who now has more than 187,000 followers with his MaxaMillion YouTube channel, attaches particular importance to the processing and selection of his fabrics. The 27-year-old has his products manufactured in Portugal – a European production country known worldwide for sustainability and good working conditions.

The label is manufactured there in the same houses as Balenciaga, Jaquemus or Balmain. Also in the interest of sustainability, everything at MAM Vienna is only available in a limited edition, which means that there are no remnants, as the Viennese emphasizes.
