Crashed into a tree – tractor accident: Eleven injured were released from KH

Date:

After an accident with a towing vehicle near Wallern (Burgenland) on Sunday morning, eleven of the 16 injured were released from hospital in the evening. The driver of the van, a 43-year-old Romanian, is still being treated in hospital, said Helmut Marban, spokesman for the Burgenland state police command.

Fleeing from a checkpoint, the heavily overcrowded van crashed into a group of trees on the L205 near the Hungarian border. All 16 occupants were injured, two of them seriously. They were taken or flown to nearby hospitals.

The 15 refugees come from India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. They immediately applied for asylum and will be heard as witnesses to the accident. Eleven people were able to leave the hospital on Sunday evening.

The Eisenstadt prosecutor’s office has requested pre-trial detention for the suspected smuggler. He will also be questioned by the detectives as soon as possible.
