DNA convicted thief – burglary in Tyrolean company solved after 6 years

Date:

Good things often take time. This was also the case during a burglary at a business premises in Zams in 2018. At that time, an unknown person had emptied the tank of an excavator and drained 90 liters of diesel. The investigation now led to a Romanian.

Detectives had been in the dark for almost six years about a burglary in Zams in 2018. Now a DNA hit has provided a crucial clue. But one after the other.

On the night of April 22, 2018, an initially unknown perpetrator broke into a company in Zams shortly after midnight. There he tapped 90 liters of diesel from an excavator. The crook failed with a second device. The damage amounted to several thousand euros.

After almost six years, the case was cleared up, as police spokesperson Stefan Eder explains: “During the burglary, traces were secured, including DNA.” These could be attributed to a 44-year-old Romanian. The only downside is that the suspect’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

Investigations were underway
According to Eder, it is not unusual for the investigation to drag on for years: “An unsolved case does not mean that it is put aside. We are still working on it years later.”

According to Eder, there is also an easily explained reason why the hit on the corresponding DNA only took place now: “Something like that happens every now and then. Especially as science in this area continues to develop. That is a matter for forensic medicine, it continues and there are new methods.”
