Train traffic in the Deutsches Eck between Tyrol and Salzburg is still severely restricted after a construction train caught fire between Übersee and Traunstein in Bavaria on Sunday evening. After the total closure imposed by the authorities, a track has now been released again, the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) announced around noon on Monday.
This is not expected to change until Friday morning. In addition, short route closures are to be expected.
Expect delays
Because 3,000 liters of diesel fuel leaked, the soil in the affected area had to be excavated and the destroyed rail infrastructure repaired. On this route, trains can only run at a greatly reduced speed, which, together with the (still standing) border controls, leads to delays.
The intention is to have one train per hour towards Munich and one towards Salzburg. However, exact departure and arrival times cannot be predicted due to construction work. Initially, the route was completely closed.
Detour via Zell am See
Long-distance traffic within Austria between Salzburg and Tyrol via the Deutsches Eck is also affected by the restrictions. Long-distance trains to and from Innsbruck have been and will be diverted via Zell am See and track replacement services have been set up for individual trains. Train passengers are asked to find out more about their railway company.
