At about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old from the Ried neighborhood touched a parked car while parking in Aspach and continued his journey undaunted. This was noticed by a witness who called the police. A police patrol went to the crime scene and after about two kilometers found a bent telecommunications mast overhanging the carriageway on the L507. Upon closer inspection, the patrol crew found a car that had been involved in an accident on the creek bed.
Officials pulled the steering wheel, which was still accessible, from the vehicle on the creek side – rescuers who arrived shortly afterwards treated the injured. In the accident, the driver initially left the right side of the road. He damaged a road control device, a mast and a bridge railing and caused crop damage. As a result of the collisions and the sloping stream bed, the car was thrown to the other side of the stream embankment.
1.92 per mille
An alcohol test performed resulted in a value of 1.92 per mille. The road had to be closed for approximately an hour in both directions for the duration of the cleanup and vehicle recovery work, which required a crane. The ambulance took the driver of the car to hospital with unknown injuries.
