While drunk and trying to make fries, a 41-year-old set a dangerous fire in Enns in Upper Austria. Mother and daughter were locked in the top apartment of the house!
When police officers arrived at the house in Enns on Monday evening from which heavy smoke was emitting, they learned that two more people were inside. The escape route was cut off because of the smoke. You could call the women, but you couldn’t reach them.
50 helpers on site
Firefighters, there were 50 helpers on the spot, were able to rescue the two women, mother (83) and daughter (55), with heavy respiratory protection from the house. They had to go through the stairwell to the apartment. The 83-year-old, who was in a wheelchair, had to be carried out of the apartment by helpers and she and her daughter were protected from the flue gases by escape hoods. Outside, safely, Red Cross paramedics treated the two and took them to the hospital of the Sisters of Charity.
Went for a walk with dogs
The cause of the fire was quickly clarified: a 41-year-old wanted to fry French fries in a pan of hot oil for dinner. He didn’t stay in the kitchen, but went for a walk with the dogs. When he returned home about 15 minutes later, the kitchen was engulfed in flames. Significant damage to the apartment building, in particular the apartment of the 41-year-old, was incurred for an undisclosed amount. An alcohol test performed on the 41-year-old resident showed a value of 1.08 per mille.
