The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration of the Spanish Government, Jose Luis Escrivachas been in favor of centralize taxes to avoid the “nonsense” that the Autonomous Communities (CCAA) compete with each other on tax matters.
Escrivá has made it clear in statements to Onda Cero that this is a opinion “in a personal capacity”which he has already defended in the past, and which is the result of the decision announced yesterday by the Junta de Andalucía to abolish the wealth tax in that community, following in the footsteps of the Community of Madrid.
“It seems absurd to me that the communities should devote themselves to tax competition with each other,” emphasized the minister, who considered that the abolition of the patrimony is an “extremely regressive” measure, precisely at a time when it is necessary to redistributive policies to the most vulnerable people due to the effects of inflation.
The minister has criticized the fact that the Spanish state has opted for a system of allocating full taxes and tax brackets, although he is in favor of the Australian modelwhere the allocation of regional resources is determined on the basis of the effective per capita expenditure for each of the public services generated.
