Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has threatened to use nuclear weapons to defend territories annexed to Ukraine. Russia is ready to use all means, including nuclear weapons, to defend the territories.
The referendums planned by the pro-Russian separatists are taking place and there is “no turning back,” Medvedev, currently deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said Thursday. Referendums on accession to Russia are scheduled for Friday in the Luhansk, Donetsk and Kherson regions.
Partial mobilization as a sign of Russian weakness
Britain, meanwhile, has doubts about Russia’s ability to partially mobilize 300,000 reservists for the war against Ukraine. “Russia is likely to face logistical and administrative challenges even to muster the 300,000 troops,” the Defense Ministry in London said.

The Russian military leadership will probably try to set up new units with the troops stationed there. But these are “probably unable to fight for months.” The partial mobilization was interpreted as a sign of Russian weakness.
“The move is effectively an admission that Russia has exhausted its stock of willing volunteers to fight in Ukraine,” the agency said. The convocations are also likely very unpopular among the population, it said. Hoping to generate much-needed fighting power, President Vladimir Putin is taking “a significant political risk”.
The day before, Putin had ordered the partial mobilization of 300,000 reservists to fill staff shortages in the war of aggression against Ukraine.
