New Orleans shooting – attacker had problems with civilian life

Date:

The suspected New Orleans bomber is a lone perpetrator, according to the FBI’s latest findings. Before his incredible act, Shamsud-Din J (42) posted recordings on social networks that, according to US President Joe Biden, show that he is “driven by the desire to kill”.

He cited investigations by the Federal Police (FBI). The perpetrator served “many years” in the American army and was subsequently on the reservist list for years. According to media reports, the 42-year-old struggled to find his way into civilian life after leaving the military. This is evident from his interview with a student newspaper in 2015. The American citizen from Texas mainly worked as an IT specialist and was once deployed to Afghanistan.

The FBI released a photo of the man and asked the public for more information about him. “We do not believe at this time that anyone other than Shamsud-Din J. was involved in this attack,” FBI Deputy Director Christopher Raia said Thursday. It was previously assumed that J. had not acted alone on New Year’s Eve.

Here you see the photo published by the Federal Police.

Bombs planted
As reported, fifteen people were killed in the alleged attack on Wednesday evening, including the perpetrator. He had taken advantage of a security loophole that could have stopped the pickup. The New York Times reported that he had run over a police car that was instead blocking access to the popular entertainment area. J. drove into the partying crowd and fired shots from his vehicle.

He also planted two bombs in the area, as has now been revealed (see video above). These were assembled at home and stored in cooler bags.

Multiple searches
A flag of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and weapons and explosives were found in the car. Meanwhile, several house searches were underway in New Orleans and other US states. According to reports, two properties were searched, both of which may be linked to the suspect. The explosives could possibly have been manufactured in one.

The Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled for New Year’s Day, was scheduled to take place next Thursday. The football game in New Orleans attracts tens of thousands of people every year.
