Sweek cats are a problem in parts of the lower Austria. To reduce the suffering of animals, the country promotes the castration of the freely living velvet legs. Two mayors show what the solution can look like.
Stray Cats quickly multiply in some communities in Lower Austria – especially if someone does not stop the uncontrolled reproduction. The state of Lower Austria tries to combat an action. Moreover, many dedicated volunteers in clubs take care of the subject – the “krone” reported. But the project does not come across your understanding, sometimes – consciously or unconsciously – looking away. Which leads to animal suffering and increases the problems.
Mayor: “We solve the problem”
A mayor shows how this problem can be resolved consistent and in the sense of animal welfare. The local leader of Neidling, Barbara Egerer, has been dedicated to the castration of stray cats for years: “We in Neidling implement the recommendation of the state of Lower Austria with regard to the castration of stray cats – and we are not the only one.”
“Leave the church in the village!”
But one must also leave the church in the village, Mayor Egerer continues: “We have estimated ten to fifteen animals a year, but we have estimated 500 euros in the parish budget. With the implementation, the employees of our construction site who bring the animals to the vet are entrusted.”
