A tragic accident happened on Wednesday in Werfen (Salzburg) on the Hochseiler. A 45-year-old woman from Pongau was fatally injured on the mountain.
The 45-year-old woman started a mountain tour from Hintertal to Hochseiler on Wednesday with a friend. Around noon, the two had to cross a steep snowfield.
The woman from Pongau lost her footing, slipped off the icy flank and hit rocky terrain at the end. The mountaineer suffered such serious injuries as a result of the collision that she died at the scene of the accident.
Due to the weather conditions, it was not possible to reach the victim with the rescue helicopter, so 17 members of the mountain rescue services Werfen and Bischofshofen and the Alpine police had to climb on foot.
